{"id":330998,"date":"2026-03-05T23:06:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T23:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/330998\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T23:06:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T23:06:10","slug":"loving-and-generous-limerick-dad-of-country-music-star-and-top-greyhound-trainer-passes-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/330998\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Loving and generous\u2019 Limerick dad of country music star and top greyhound trainer passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE FATHER of Irish country music star Jimmy Buckley and leading greyhound trainer Pat Buckley has gone to his God.<\/p>\n<p>Michael (Mike) Buckley, of Gurtavalla, Doon, and formerly of Glengar and Main Street, Doon, County <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/limerickleader.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a>, passed away peacefully at University Hospital Limerick this Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy announced the sad news on social media, describing his late father as a \u201cloving and generous dad to us all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be sadly missed by our dear mother Mary, as she was by his side for over 60 years. He was very proud of all eight of his children and his many grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loved his music and was so very proud of both Claudia and me, and was an eager follower of both our careers,\u201d wrote Jimmy, one of the biggest names on the Irish country music scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/politics\/2030883\/limerick-woman-on-first-irish-flight-from-dubai-since-middle-east-crisis-touches-down.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick woman on first Irish flight from Dubai since Middle East crisis touches down<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brother, Pat, is equally as successful in his chosen profession of greyhound training with over 36 classics to his name.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy said he announced his father\u2019s passing with \u201cgreat sadness and a heavy heart\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to share this with all of our friends and many supporters near and far, as your support and warm wishes will give us great comfort at this very sad time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the next few days, we will come together as a family to celebrate his life, remember the stories, and honour the man he was.
