The seizure was made on February 25 when officers stopped a trailer that had arrived on a ferry from Dunkirk in France.<\/p>\n
Inside, officers discovered approximately 24,500 litres of beer with a retail value estimated at more than \u20ac97,000 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over \u20ac45,700 in unpaid duties and taxes.<\/p>\n
The seizure included a wide range of well-known beer brands such as Desperados, Carlsberg, Budweiser, Stella, San Miguel and Karpackie among others. There is no sugggestion the producers had any awareness the beer was being shipped here.<\/p>\n
Revenue said the alcohol was detected during routine profiling operations aimed at identifying alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of tax due.<\/p>\n
Officials said the alcohol and the trailer transporting it were both seized following the discovery. Investigations into the case are ongoing.<\/p>\n
The Rosslare operation forms part of wider enforcement activity by Revenue targeting smuggling and activity in the shadow economy.<\/p>\n
Separate operations carried out across the country in the week commencing February 16 have also uncovered a range of contraband worth more than \u20ac135,000, including drugs, tobacco, alcohol and counterfeit good.<\/p>\n
Revenue said the seizures took place during a week of intelligence-led and risk-profiling operations in Dublin, Kilkenny, the midlands and Rosslare Europort.<\/p>\n
Among the items caught were 4.7kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over \u20ac94,000 and 2.kg of cannabis resin valued at more than \u20ac14,000.<\/p>\n
Revenue officers also seized 1,698 assorted tablets with an estimated value exceeding \u20ac4,000, along with other illicit drugs valued at more than \u20ac6,000.<\/p>\n
Revenue said many of the drug detections came from parcels identified through risk profiling.<\/p>\n
These shipments originated in countries such as Canada, USA, Thailand, Spain and France and were set to be delivered to addresses across Ireland.<\/p>\n
Over the same week, officers seized tobacco products valued at \u20ac9,345, representing a potential tax loss of more than \u20ac7,000, as well as over 84 litres of alcohol valued at \u20ac1,485.<\/p>\n
In addition, 23 counterfeit items worth more than \u20ac7,000 were confiscated after rights holders confirmed they breached intellectual property protections.<\/p>\n
The seized goods included items linked to brands such as Canada Goose, Chanel, Dior, Timberland and Ugg.<\/p>\n
