{"id":331716,"date":"2026-03-06T08:22:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T08:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/331716\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T08:22:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T08:22:07","slug":"southampton-city-art-gallery-to-reopen-after-2m-refurbishment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/331716\/","title":{"rendered":"Southampton City Art Gallery to reopen after \u00a32m refurbishment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This is a great moment not just for Southampton, but also for the whole country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Chairman of Arts Council England, Sir Nicholas Serota, thinks that the imminent reopening of the Southampton City Art Gallery shows the country&#8217;s arts scene is in rude health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Replacing some of the roof, windows and other structures cost \u00a32.23 million, the vast majority of the money coming from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport&#8217;s Museum Estate and Development Fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The gallery was closed a little over a year ago the building could be refurbished. It will open again on Saturday, March 7th.
