Actor Jessie Buckley<\/a> has clarified that she is a \u201clover of cats\u201d following a heated backlash from feline fans who were upset that she said she did not like them in a previous interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Appearing on Jimmy Fallon\u2019s US chat show on Thursday, Buckley said she even auditioned to be a cat once, and it was a \u201cmisconception\u201d that she hated the animals.<\/p>\n

During an interview to publicise their film Hamnet<\/a> last year, she and co-star Paul Mescal<\/a> were asked if they were cat or dog people, and both replied that they prefer dogs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like cats,\u201d Buckley said. \u201cCats are mean.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also said that when she met her husband, she gave him an ultimatum that he had to choose either her or his cats.<\/p>\n

But appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Buckley said she does, in fact, like cats.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to clarify something for all cat lovers in the world, right?\u201d Buckley told Fallon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a lover of cats. I woke up this morning \u2013 does the world think that I really don\u2019t love cats? And it\u2019s really weighed on me all day. I felt sick.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to just tell cat people that I actually auditioned to be a cat once.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been a misconception because of an interview that I did. They asked me if I was a dog or a cat, and honestly, I think I\u2019m probably a quarter cat and three quarters dog.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she auditioned to be in the 2019 film of the musical Cats, but did not get the part.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was honestly the worst \u2013 I gave the worst audition of my life,\u201d she told Fallon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so hot. I was sweating. I was like, licking my paws, like trying to leap.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just like a hoof of an Irish woman leaping across and licking her paws. And anyway, obviously I didn\u2019t get it.\u201d<\/p>\n
