Liam Farrell’s son, Brendan Farrell, says plans to exhume his father\u2019s body are “positive, forward momentum” in the investigation into his death.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are planning to exhume the body of the retired Leitrim farmer, which was found bruised and bloodied outside his home in the village of Rooskey in January 2020.<\/p>\n
The exhumation is to be carried out with the Garda Serious Crime Review Team.<\/p>\n
Last October, a review into how garda\u00ed handled Mr Farrell’s death was established by Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly.<\/p>\n
Brendan Farrell told Behind the Story he was shaking when he heard the news of the exhumation yesterday.<\/p>\n
“I sat in the car and I was absolutely shaking,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This is our father, this is daddy \u2013 the man that lived a simple life,” he said.<\/p>\n
“A man that was loved by neighbours, his family, his friends \u2013 a man that was full of life.<\/p>\n
“I still can\u2019t believe that we\u2019re in this situation; we just want to find out what happened him.”<\/p>\n
‘Stuck in time\u2019<\/p>\n
Mr Farrell said anything that gives him and his siblings further insight is welcome.<\/p>\n
“If it gives us a better insight to what happened that weekend, that\u2019s a positive and hopefully it\u2019ll help the (Garda Serious Crime Review Team) as well in their work.”<\/p>\n
Mr Farrell said his father\u2019s house remains untouched.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s stuck in time as to what we found that weekend,” he explained.<\/p>\n
“We don\u2019t feel it\u2019s right to do anything with it until we follow this through to find out what happened Daddy.<\/p>\n
“When we do that, then obviously we\u2019ll return the house to its normal condition, which was pristine.”<\/p>\n
Mr Farrell also spoke of his \u2018regret\u2019 for not bringing his father home that night in 2020.<\/p>\n
“I think one of the biggest regrets that I have is that I wasn\u2019t there that night to bring him home,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I was only minutes away\u2026 every time I dive up there now, I think, I wish I could have been there with him, and he would have got in the door safely.”<\/p>\n
