The death has taken place of Alicia Kelly, Spencer Street, Castlebar.<\/p>\n
She died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, surrounded by her family.<\/p>\n
A much-loved and respected personality, she will be remembered as a compassionate and professional nurse and healthcare manager who was attached to Mayo University Hospital and Mayo County Clinic for many years.<\/p>\n
She is deeply regretted by her many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, relatives, former colleagues in the Mayo healthcare services, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.<\/p>\n
Alicia was predeceased by her parents Mary and John, brothers Tony, Tommy, PJ and John and sisters Josephine and Anne.<\/p>\n
Many warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.<\/p>\n
In a tribute, former neighbour Sean Lyons, Tralee, stated: “I remember Alicia calling to our shop in Spencer over the years. She was an elegant and kind lady, with a ready smile.”<\/p>\n
Another said: “Alicia was a very kind, caring and respected nurse who gave her all for those for whom she cared.”<\/p>\n
A further tribute stated: “She was a lady with many gifts which she shared generously to all about here, particularly when times were tough and trying.<\/p>\n
“For years she dedicated her life to the people of Mayo, giving them the best of her life as a dedicated, compassionate and supportive nurse, with a smile and cheerful manner.<\/p>\n
“She may have been petite in stature, but she was a powerhouse of goodness, maintaining high standards of professional practice – an inspiration to all those she managed and guided over her working life.”<\/p>\n
The deceased was a former member of Castlebar Choral Society and the choir of the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.<\/p>\n
Reposing at her home in Spencer Street today (Sunday) from 5 until 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Removal from her home on Monday morning at 12:15 p.m. to The Church of The Holy Rosary for Requiem mass at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
Interment takes place afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.<\/p>\n
