After Quentin Tarantino decided to scrap<\/a> what was meant to be his tenth and final film, the director shifted his focus to an original theatrical play he was writing. Now, some early details have emerged, and it\u2019s probably not what anyone was expecting.<\/p>\n

Quentin Tarantino\u2019s Play<\/p>\n

First reported by the Daily Mail<\/a>, the play will be an \u201cold-fashioned British farce, in the door-slamming, trouser-dropping, mistaken identity vein of Brian Rix or Ray Cooney.\u201d Something like Michael Frayn\u2019s Noises Off.<\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> has confirmed that Tarantino will indeed make his directorial comeback with the play, adding that it could open next fall in the West End. The Daily Mail said that the director has been negotiating with some \u201cbig Hollywood stars\u201d to appear in the play, but Variety has heard it \u201ccould be an ensemble comprised of rising and well-known actors.\u201c<\/p>\n

Tarantino on the Play<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, the play is all written. It is absolutely the next thing I\u2019m going to do,\u201d he said last year. \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely my next project. And we\u2019ll start doing it. We\u2019ll start the ball rolling on it in January. Because I just figure it\u2019s like the first of the year.\u201c<\/p>\n

Tarantino added, \u201cI just, you know, it\u2019s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life, all right? Because if it\u2019s a success and I got to do the tour version of it and you know, all that kind of\u2026 I\u2019m preparing for it to be a success. If it\u2019s a flop, then I\u2019ll be done very quickly. But even starting from scratch, it\u2019ll probably be a year before it\u2019s in front of an audience. So rather than dick around and everything, I was like, no, no, okay, I\u2019m having a great time with my kids and with my family and everything.\u201c<\/p>\n

Why Did He Scrap The Movie Critic?<\/p>\n

As for why Tarantino decided not to move forward with The Movie Critic, he simply explained<\/a> that he wasn\u2019t feeling as passionate about it as he should. \u201cI knew I had done it, but I didn\u2019t really want to do it that much\u2026 I wasn\u2019t excited about dramatizing what I wrote,\u201d he said. \u201cThe thing about The Movie Critic is I really, really like it, but there was a challenge I gave myself when I did it, both as a series and as a movie: can I take the most boring profession in the world and make it an interesting movie. Who wants to see a movie about a f***ing movie critic?\u201c<\/p>\n
