Cork coffee company Caf\u00e9 Velo has closed its city centre<\/a> location, with the owners confirming plans to relocate the popular caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n Launched by local entrepreneur Rob Horgan in 2015, Caf\u00e9 Velo quickly became a household name here in Cork, with their own-brand coffee raking in the awards. The caf\u00e9 side of the business was sold during the pandemic, and Rob pivoted to retail and direct sales.<\/a><\/p>\n The quayside caf\u00e9 remained popular following the pandemic<\/a>, perhaps best known for its all-day breakfasts, which proved a hit with customers. However, the caf\u00e9 has now shut its doors with a notice on the door thanking customers for all their support over the years.<\/p>\n It reads: “It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of Cafe Velo in the city centre. We are relocating to a new place.<\/p>\n “Reflecting on the many good years, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited our restaurant. We have had the privilege of serving wonderful and lovely customers. A special thanks goes to our fantastic team, who were truly dedicated, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have done.<\/p>\n “We are genuinely heartbroken to reach this point – until we meet again, with sincere gratitude and many thanks for all your support.”<\/p>\n The notice posted outside Caf\u00e9 Velo(Image: Sara Rountree)<\/p>\n Another notice on the door, kindly left by the owner of nearby caf\u00e9 Three Little Piggies, wished the Caf\u00e9 Velo owners the best in their future endeavours and offered to honour any outstanding vouchers customers may have.<\/p>\n It follows a closure announcement from another popular Cork business earlier this week<\/a>, with Moore’s Jewellers confirming plans to close the family-run business after more than 50 years on Leeside. Moores Jewellers was established in Carrigaline in 1980 by Aidan and Eileen Moore after they returned from nearly a decade in Australia.<\/p>\n In a message to their customers, they asked people with vouchers – or with repairs – to contact them as soon as possible, as the doors will be closing both stories on March 18th.
