DreamWorks<\/a> is officially hard at work on a sequel to my favorite animated film of 2024, The Wild Robot<\/a>. According to The Wrap<\/a>, Troy Quane, who co-directed Netflix\u2019s brilliant and empowering animated adventure Nimona, will take over directing duties from Chris Sanders for the forthcoming sequel, titled The Wild Robot Escapes. In addition to Quane, Heidi Jo Gilbert, who worked as head of story on the original film, will co-direct the sequel. While Sanders isn\u2019t directing The Wild Robot Escapes, he\u2019ll write the screenplay, with Jeff Hermann producing.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s The Wild Robot About?<\/p>\n

Directed by three-time Academy Award nominee Chris Sanders,\u00a0The Wild Robot\u00a0is an epic adventure starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong\u2019o (Us, the\u00a0Black Panther\u00a0franchise) as Roz. This robot is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings. Gradually, Roz starts building relationships with the animals on the island, including a clever fox voiced by\u00a0Pedro Pascal<\/a> (The Last of Us,\u00a0The Mandalorian), and becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling named Brightbill, voiced by Kit Connor (Ready Player One, Heartstopper).\u00a0The Wild Robot is a powerful story about self-discovery, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature, and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things.<\/p>\n

The Wild Robot features an incredible supporting voice cast alongside Nyong\u2019o, Pascal, and Connor, including Catherine O\u2019Hara (Schitt\u2019s Creek, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Rango), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fall Guy), Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, What We Do in the Shadows) and Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible\u00a0franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2). Showcasing music by Emmy and Grammy-nominated composer and Oscar<\/a> winner Kris Bowers, the film also boasts two original songs by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and music sensation Maren Morris.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s The Wild Robot Escapes About?<\/p>\n

The Wild Robot Escapes follows ROZZUM unit 7134 (\u201cRoz\u201d) after she is captured and sent from her island to work on a modern dairy farm. While adapting to life at Hilltop Farm with owner Mr. Shareef and his children, Jaya and Jad, Roz longs to return to her son, Brightbill, and the wilderness.<\/p>\n
