{"id":334775,"date":"2026-03-08T03:13:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T03:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/334775\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T03:13:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T03:13:09","slug":"ukraines-second-largest-city-hit-by-deadly-russian-missile-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/334775\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine\u2019s second-largest city hit by deadly Russian missile attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two children were among at least 10 people killed when a Russian missile hit a five-storey residential building in Ukraine\u2019s second-largest city, Kharkiv, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen others were wounded in the attack on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and called for an international response.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Russia struck Ukraine overnight with 29 missiles and 480 drones, targeting energy facilities in Kyiv and other central regions and with damage reported in at least seven other locations across the country.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Since last night, work has been ongoing to clear the rubble of a residential building in Kharkiv following a Russian ballistic missile strike. A whole section was destroyed, and the upper floors of a neighboring building were damaged. For other uses, additional clearances may be required.\"\/>At least 10 people were killed in the attack on Kharkiv (AP)\n<\/p>\n<p>In the Kyiv region, damage from debris was reported in three districts, according to local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>In the southern region of Odesa, 80 firefighters were called in to help battle massive fires at infrastructure facilities following an attack with multiple drones.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia said damage to the rail infrastructure forced changes to a number of routes in the centre-west of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Defence Ministry said the overnight strike targeted Ukrainian military factories, energy facilities and air bases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere must be a response from partners to these savage strikes against life,\u201d Mr Zelensky said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia has not abandoned its attempts to destroy Ukraine\u2019s residential and critical infrastructure, and therefore support must continue. We count on active work with the European Union to guarantee greater protection for our people.
