John Cena<\/a> is no stranger to praising WWE<\/a> and its audience, and recently opened up about a big lesson that he learned from fans.<\/p>\n

Speaking to GQ as part of a new profile<\/a>, Cena was asked about his years in WWE. Specifically, how it prepared him for his acting career, and in the world of superheroes. Cena said what he\u2019s learned from WWE audiences \u201cstretches far beyond professional capacity,\u201d but did touch on very important thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess the core message that I can strip away to answer this question is good work begets opportunity. Do good work. Put your heart and soul into good work,\u201d said Cena. \u201cNow, a critic\u2019s job is to be critical. There will always be something to criticize. Always.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if it\u2019s like, \u2018I don\u2019t like the gait of his stride.\u2019 There\u2019s always something to criticize. But if you do good work, even those who are the most critical, I think, appreciate the fact that, \u2018Man, I think he gave it his all, but this is where I think it fell short.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Cena believes doing the best work possible is the best thing to do<\/p>\n

Cena went on to touch on the different kinds of \u201cfans\u201d that can be found in WWE. He noted that WWE exists as an \u201caction story-based variety show\u201d because of them all. The star also said that the best thing most can do is just focus on the thing they\u2019re doing and make it the best.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think at the end of the day, just focusing on the work, trying not to use it as a springboard to do anything else or like, \u2018Man, this is an opportunity and I can maybe do this\u2019 or whatever.\u201d Cena said. \u201cI see a lot of that happen in every aspect of professionalism that I\u2019ve been in close calls with.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think for me, just focusing on the work, me giving you the 37 minutes and 20 seconds we have right now to not be elsewhere. To focus on the work and try to answer your questions in the best frame of mind that I can. I\u2019m not thinking about what\u2019s next. I\u2019m thinking about what\u2019s now.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I believe that that is the lesson, from a professional standpoint, that WWE and its audiences have helped me with so much. Because you can over-prepare, which I try to pride myself in, but when you get out on the canvas, it is live and you cannot control one very important element of the performance and that is the audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if you are not present, then you\u2019re a liar. But if you are present, they accept that even if you work isn\u2019t the best, they can still walk away from the experience being like, \u2018Damn, you put your heart on a plate and you gave us a great time.’\u201d<\/p>\n
