<\/p>\nA walk to raise awareness about Parkinsons will take place at Bernard McGlinchey Town Park, Letterkenny.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Organised by Parkinson’s Ireland – A Walk in the Park for Parkinson\u2019s – will take place in 20 locations across the country on Saturday, 11 April at 11am as part of Parkinson\u2019s Awareness Month.<\/p>\n
The event aims to raise both awareness and funds for the services and supports provided by Parkinson\u2019s Ireland to people living with Parkinson\u2019s disease, their families and care partners.<\/p>\n
Parkinson\u2019s Disease is a progressive neurological condition which affects an estimated 18,000 people in Ireland, a figure projected to double by 2050.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The condition was originally characterised by motor symptoms such as tremor at rest, slowness of movement and muscle rigidity. However, more than 40 symptoms are now associated with Parkinson\u2019s, including a range of nonmotor symptoms that can significantly impact daily life.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cA Walk in the Park for Parkinson\u2019s\u201d is designed as a family-friendly community event that encourages people of all ages to take part while helping to support individuals and families affected by the condition.<\/p>\n
The national launch of the event brought together several members of Parkinson\u2019s Ireland who shared their lived experience of the condition as ambassadors, highlighting the challenges faced by those living with Parkinson\u2019s and the importance of community support.\u00a0<\/p>\n
