{"id":336013,"date":"2026-03-08T23:07:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T23:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/336013\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T23:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T23:07:08","slug":"hockey-world-cup-bound-ireland-end-qualifiers-run-with-win-to-take-top-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/336013\/","title":{"rendered":"Hockey World Cup-bound Ireland end qualifiers run with win to take top spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                    Ireland 2<br \/>France 1<\/p>\n<p>THE IRELAND MEN\u2019S hockey team completed their\u00a0FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers with a win over France to take top spot at the tournament in Chile.<\/p>\n<p>Ireland secured their qualification earlier this week, defeating Wales 4-0 to book their place at the World Cup for the first time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the42.ie\/ireland-men-qualify-hockey-world-cup-6977938-Mar2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in eight years.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>France were also already qualified before today\u2019s meeting. Ireland were seeking a fifth successive victory, while France looked to reclaim their World number nine status.<\/p>\n<p>After trailing by a goal, Ireland rallied to earn a 2-1 win thanks to a Greg Williams brace.
