Most apes eventually die, but Gorillaz<\/a> plan to live forever, with Damon Albarn<\/a> promising, \u201cWe\u2019ll pass it on to the next generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview<\/a> with Liam McEwan of the Associated Press, band co-founders Albarn and Jamie Hewlett<\/a> spoke about their plans for Gorillaz succession. \u201cThe cartoon is more important than the people,\u201d Albarn said, \u201calthough the people are very important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be fun to pass it on to a younger team,\u201d Hewlett said. He added, somewhat ahistorically, \u201cBob Clampett passed Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck onto Chuck Jones.\u201d Hewlett\u2019s memory here is a bit muddled; Clampett and Jones were contemporaries in directing Looney Tunes, as well as bitter rivals who fought over credit for the popularity of Bugs Bunny. There was nothing like a clean transition between them.<\/p>\n

Still, Gorillaz imagine a graceful passing of the torch, ideally while the current band is well enough to enjoy it. \u200a\u201dIt may be interesting to be just there in the background for the next generation to start off,\u201d Albarn said.<\/p>\n
