Universal Pictures has premiered the full trailer for the upcoming animated feature, \u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

A sequel to 2023\u2019s tremendously successful<\/a> \u201cThe Super Mario Bros. Movie,\u201d \u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d features most of the voice cast from the animated blockbuster reprising their roles, including Chris Pratt as the plumber Mario, Charlie Day as his brother Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Mushroom Kingdom ruler Princess Peach, Jack Black as the Koopa king and main villain Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as the explorer Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Bowser\u2019s advisor Kamek. Notably, Donald Glover was announced Monday as the voice of Yoshi. <\/p>\n

\"The<\/a> \"TEENAGE<\/a> <\/p>\n

As the title suggests, the film<\/a> will specifically adapt \u201cSuper Mario Galaxy,\u201d one of the most popular and acclaimed games in the greater \u201cMario\u201d franchise. Released on the Wii in 2007, the action platformer saw Mario travel into space to track down Bowser after he kidnapped Princess Peach, enlisting the help of intergalactic princess Rosalina and the star-shaped alien Lumas to help him on his quest. In the movie, Rosaline will be voiced by Brie Larson, famously a Nintendo fan<\/a>. Also featured in the film is secondary antagonist Bowser Jr., here voiced by \u201cThe Smashing Machine\u201d director and \u201cThe Curse\u201d star Benny Safdie.<\/p>\n

Produced by Illumination, \u201cThe Super Mario Bros. Movie\u201d received mixed reviews<\/a> but was a massive box-office success, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide. It is currently the highest-grossing video game film of all time by a wide margin, with last year\u2019s \u201cA Minecraft Movie\u201d trailing behind with just over $900 million. Its success \u2014 along with the over-performance of other titles such as the \u201cFive Nights at Freddy\u2019s\u201d movies \u2014 has seemed to help kick off a new wave of video game film adaptations: three others (\u201cMortal Kombat II,\u201d \u201cResident Evil,\u201d and \u201cStreet Fighter\u201d) are scheduled for later this year, and 2027 will see another beloved Nintendo property hit the big screen with the long awaited \u201cLegend of Zelda\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d premieres on April 1. Filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, also known for creating \u201cTeen Titans Go,\u201d return from the first film to direct a script penned by Matthew Fogel. Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Mario creator and legendary video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto produced the movie.
