\n\tWhile many are applauding Chappell Roan<\/a> for standing up to paparazzi<\/a> harassment, Boy George<\/a> decided to go another route.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Tuesday (March 10), the former Culture Club<\/a> singer took to X<\/a> to share his thoughts on the recent viral video of Roan confronting paparazzi. In his post, George says that he\u2019s been famous for a long time and that he\u2019s learned that celebrities \u201cdon\u2019t get a free pass once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe then tags Roan directly, advising her to \u201cown your fame\u201d and to \u201ccheer up girl. The world is at your feet stop kicking it!\u201d According to George, \u201cboundaries are boring\u201d and she should \u201cbreak them with the magic of kindness.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s probably not helpful but I have been doing this fame thing for a while and you learn slowly and painfully that you don’t get a free pass once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise. I watched @ChappellRoan<\/a> filming the paps in Paris and I laughed because I have kicked off\u2026<\/p>\n

\n\tThe response from Boy George comes a day after the video of Roan going toe-to-toe with paparazzi began circulating online. In the clip, Roan films herself selfie-style standing amidst a group of paparazzi shouting at and recording her as they hound her for autographs. Roan can be heard saying into her phone, \u201cI\u2019ve asked these people several times to get away from me,\u201d before turning the camera on them. \u201cThese are all the people that are completely disregarding my boundaries,\u201d she says later in the video.<\/p>\n

\n\tX users were quick to defend Roan against George\u2019s unsolicited opinion. \u201cWhy is everyone so eager to tell women to just take unwanted attention<\/a>,\u201d said one user. \u201cMaybe she should handcuff someone to a radiator instead next time,\u201d said another, referring to George\u2019s 2009 conviction for false imprisonment. The singer was sentenced to 15 months<\/a> in jail for handcuffing a male escort to a radiator and beating him with a metal chain in London in 2007.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith Culture Club, Boy George won a Grammy for best new artist in 1984, 41 years before Roan won in the same category.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough George may not be aligned with Roan\u2019s boundary-setting, several other stars are. On Tuesday, folk-rock singer\/songwriter Noah Kahan<\/a> took to his Instagram Stories to defend the \u201cPink Pony Club\u201d singer. \u201cMaybe they should just idk leave her alone?\u201d Kahan wrote in his first post. In a follow-up video, he elaborates on why he does not like the behavior of the paparazzi and shared his own experiences with them.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThese people literally find out where you\u2019re staying, where you\u2019re flying in to, where your team, family, whoever is staying,\u201d he says. \u201cThey are clearly not your fans, they just sit outside places so they can try to guilt you into signing sh\u2013 so they can sell it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis is not Roan\u2019s first time setting boundaries with those around her. On the 2024 MTV VMAs red carpet, she confronted a photographer <\/a>who allegedly told her to \u201cshut the f\u2014 up.\u201d That same year, Roan went viral for telling off another photographer<\/a> at the premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour film for being rude to her on a previous occasion.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe effects of the pop star\u2019s boundary setting have been appreciated by others in the industry. At the 2026 Grammys, Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> credited Roan for how \u201cquiet\u201d the red carpet photographers were saying, \u201cChappell really started a movement.\u201d<\/p>\n
