Instead of mapping out another five- or 10-year plan,\u00a0Cajide\u00a0reframed\u00a0her life around a single question:\u00a0If I had one week to live, what must I do?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Her answer surprised her. Alongside seeing the Aurora Borealis and eating at a three-Michelin-star restaurant was something she\u00a0hadn\u2019t\u00a0allowed herself to want in decades\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/figure-skating\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">figure skating<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Cajide\u00a0had skated competitively as a child but quit at 12, believing\u00a0she\u2019d\u00a0missed her only chance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">\u201cWhen I trained as a kid, you never saw adults at freestyle sessions,\u201d she said. \u201cI also grew up with the belief that if you weren\u2019t going to attempt the Olympics, you should choose another path.\u201d That idea\u2014that serious skating belonged only to the young\u2014followed her through her 20s and 30s as she focused on career-building instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/depression\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Depression<\/a> loosened the grip of that belief. With nothing to lose,\u00a0Cajide\u00a0returned to the ice for the first time in 30 years, pulling her old blades from her parents\u2019 house and stepping onto a public session.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">She captured her journey for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DTD8TcfEp7a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a reel<\/a>\u00a0on Instagram (@whengoodenough), which has been viewed more than 6 million times.\u00a0Wearing a gray sweater, she takes to the ice for the first time in years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Cajide\u00a0found a coach, began training before sunrise and tested and competed as an adult skater. She won gold at her first national competition, qualified for a national championship at 46 and is preparing to\u00a0return again\u00a0at 49.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">One of her proudest moments came at 45, when she landed an axel in competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">\u201cI love to dance and skate, but what I truly love is expressing myself through music,\u201d Cajide explained. \u201cI didn\u2019t connect the dots until I returned to figure skating and had to pick out music for my competition program. I suddenly felt alive again.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The comeback\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0been easy.\u00a0Cajide\u00a0has endured broken bones, concussions, torn muscles,\u00a0surgeries\u00a0and a dislocated shoulder.
