Richard Baneham won an Oscar for his work on Avatar<\/p>\n
Michael and Noeleen Baneham, the Irish parents of Richard Baneham, will be flying the flag for Ireland on \u00adSunday after heading out to LA to cheer on their son.<\/p>\n
The Tallaght man, who has won two Oscars, has been nominated for his work in Best Visual Effects in the hit film Avatar: Fire and Ash, having previously won in 2010 for Avatar and 2023 for Avatar: The Way of Water.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be great. People say it\u2019s a shoo-in for a third Oscar for Richie, but don\u2019t count your chickens before they hatch, as they say. But we\u2019re so excited,\u201d Michael Baneham said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is our third Oscars and he got a Bafta a couple of weeks ago so it\u2019s going great for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
On rubbing shoulders with the world\u2019s biggest stars at the event in \u00adHollywood\u2019s Dolby Theatre, Mr Baneham said the \u201cexperience is amazing\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first time was absolutely amazing. We had a great time. It was surreal to say that you\u2019re at the Oscars and next of all, you son\u2019s name gets called out. That was back in 2010,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was his first one and then he got a second one. So we\u2019ll see what happens in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
Baneham now lives in America and his parents will be staying with his wife Ashling and their three sons Nathan, Luke and Daniel. \u201cThen we\u2019re heading over to our daughter who\u2019s in New Zealand. She\u2019s in the film business as well,\u201d Mr Baneham said.<\/p>\n
Asked if he had put a bet on his son to win, he said it was something he had previously considered.<\/p>\n
\u201cBack in 2009, I was thinking I\u2019d go for a hat-trick and if he wins, this is the hat-trick. But we don\u2019t know what\u2019s \u00adgoing to happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has two Oscars and about 15 worldwide awards. People are saying he\u2019s a shoo-in for this, but we don\u2019t take anything for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n
