QUINCY \u2014 The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County is presenting a program by native Quincyan Martin Settle on Sunday, Sept. 28, as he launches his new book This Little Ichnolite of Mine which about growing up in Quincy. The program is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Utopia Event Center, 900 N. 12th St., former home of The Plaza restaurant which was owned by Settle\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
In a press release, Settle said, \u201dMy memoir recounts my family\u2019s legacy in Quincy through generations of bootleggers, bartenders and restaurant owners, my experiences with a Catholic education from grade school through Quincy College, and what it was like growing up in Quincy during the hippie and civil rights eras.\u201d<\/p>\n
HSQAC program chair Tim Jacobs brought up the idea of holding the program at Utopia, and Settle was excited about that opportunity. \u201c\u201cI was over the moon to learn that it will be held in the same building as our family\u2019s former restaurant, the Plaza, as it plays a prominent role in my book, he adds. \u201cAnd it was a surprising bonus that the release of my book falls during Quincy\u2019s Bicentennial. It couldn\u2019t have been scripted any better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
