increasingly \u2018concerned\u2019 about economic impact of Iran war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The T\u00e1naiste has said he is becoming \u201cmore concerned\u201d about the impact of the Iran war on inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Harris was in Co Cork for the second UK-Ireland Summit on Friday and said: \u201cTwo weeks in, with no signs of de-escalation, I am becoming more concerned around the inflationary impact of this war on the global economy, on the eurozone economy and on the Irish economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Finance said his department is currently preparing its spring forecast and said he has asked that, as part of it, a \u201cmacroeconomic analysis of the impact of the conflict\u201d be undertaken.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"853\" width=\"640\" Lawless\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>Harris said it would be ready \u201ctowards the very end of this month or the very start of April\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he was modelling potential interventions the Government could take, he said that what is needed first is \u201cto try and have the best understanding and the best data of the various scenarios that could present themselves to the Irish and European economy in the time ahead\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you see that, see what the potential impact, for example, on growth rates might be, see what potential impacts on inflation rates might be, that then allows the Government, and indeed the Oireachtas, to decide what the best policy response might be, and that\u2019s the piece of work that we\u2019re doing now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"not-prose businesses are \u201cseeing the impact\u201d of the war.<\/p>\n<p>While Harris said the Government does not \u201crule things out in relation to this\u201d, he said \u201cany economic medicine that
