Mary Queen of Scots, the “compelling” period drama starring Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan, is being removed from Netflix<\/a> in the coming days. You really don’t have long to watch it, so you’ll have to hurry!<\/p>\n

The film<\/a> sees Ronan portray the doomed monarch<\/a>, with Robbie playing her cousin Queen Elizabeth I of England. The drama takes place in the lead-up to Mary’s execution, focusing on the political and moral games at play.<\/p>\n

Originally released in 2018, the film<\/a> is currently available to stream in the UK on Netflix, but subscribers don’t have very long to watch the action unfold as it is due to be removed from the streamer<\/a> on Wednesday (18 March).<\/p>\n

Directed by Josie Rourke from a screenplay by Beau Willimon, the period drama boasts a stacked supporting cast including David Tennant, Jack Lowden, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Gemma Chan, Martin Compston and Adrian Lester.<\/p>\n

Upon its release, Mary Queen of Scots received a generally positive response, with much praise being reserved for Robbie’s performance. The actor garnered nods at the 72nd BAFTA Awards and 25th Actor Awards, both for Best Supporting Actress.<\/p>\n

On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, the film currently has a solid approval rating of 62% from 294 reviews, with the site’s consensus reading: “Mary Queen of Scots delivers uneven period political thrills while offering a solid showcase for the talents of its well-matched leads.”<\/p>\n

“Rourke and Willimon have crafted a juicy, darkly compelling drama that offers a sleek alternative to what’s come before. It’s hardly revolutionary or particularly revisionist but there’s enough here to make it feel like a worthy endeavour nonetheless,” noted The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“An epic look at the intimate frustrations of two massively powerful young women who spend most of their energy navigating between who they are and what they represent,” wrote IndieWire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vanity Fair<\/a> was also full of praise in its review, writing: “I report with uneasy surprise that, in that regard, Mary Queen of Scots, from theatre director Josie Rourke, earns its spot on the royal register.” <\/p>\n

While this period drama is due to leave Netflix in the near future, another Scotland-set film was added to the streamer earlier this week<\/a>, with the acclaimed real-life drama I Swear now available to watch.<\/p>\n

Mary Queen of Scots will be removed from Netflix on 18 March.<\/p>\n
