The owners, Emma and Mike Hanrahan, bought it in 2017 and renovated it after living in the original cottage for a year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002580_12_articleinline_120_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002583_12_articleinline_143_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002586_12_articleinline_108_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The family of six \u2014 some of whom are now adults and buying their own homes \u2014 have loved living here and particularly enjoyed the commutability and access to public transport. Ms Hanrahan says: \u201cThe kids all had their Leapcards on the go all the time and myself and my husband would have used the bus down to Douglas or into town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">They\u2019re downsizing closer to Douglas. The large, open-plan dining area can cater to many guests: \u201cWe\u2019ve easily had 30-40 people in the house for Christmas and other celebrations and there was always plenty of room for a big Christmas tree, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Vaulted ceilings and a stove keep the living areas cosy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Triple-glazed Aluclad windows create the look: \u201cMy favourite spot is the snug\/sitting room. It\u2019s so quiet you wouldn\u2019t even hear a car passing. But it\u2019s not isolated at all \u2014 I love being able to see the city lights from windows all across the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002589_12_articleinline_114_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002592_12_articleinline_133_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/5002622_5_articleinline_127_20-_20Orchid_20Lodge.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The kitchen was installed four years ago by Classic Kitchens in Carrigaline. And Direct Blinds, in Little Island, looked after the window treatments. The flooring, shipped from the UK, is solid bamboo through the extension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cYou\u2019ve got great accessibility to the city centre and nearby Douglas village, with all its many restaurants and shops.
