SOME of Fermanagh\u2019s top performers have been\u00a0recognised for their excellence and commitment to Country music at a major awards ceremony.<\/p>\n
There was plenty of glitz and glamour at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan as the Hot Country TV Awards returned in style, celebrating all that is good about the Country music industry in Ireland.<\/p>\n
Derek Ryan, who has set up home in Fermanagh, was once again one of the big winners on the night when he scooped the \u2018Songwriter of the Year\u2019 title.<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old has a wide repertoire of songs and tracks and he recently proved he\u2019s one of Ireland\u2019s top singer-songwriters by producing a much-anticipated new album \u2018The Nashville EP\u2019.<\/p>\n
Derek spent time in the States recording his new album and his four-song collection has gone down a big hit with his large and ever-growing fan base.<\/p>\n
\u201cNashville is like nowhere else in the world. Every corner of the city is alive with music and storytelling,\u201d the Fermanagh singer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing there pushed me to dig deeper, to write songs that celebrated storytelling, while still keeping the Irish country sound that my fans have come to know and love.\u201d<\/p>\n
Derek has also released a new single \u2018Batten Down The Hatches\u2019, which he recorded with rising star singer Effie Neill.<\/p>\n
Other winners<\/p>\n
Another big winner on the night was Donegal\u2019s David James, who\u2019s song \u2018The Waltz of Life\u2019 was named as \u2018Single of the Year\u2019.<\/p>\n
David\u2019s hit song was penned by his manager, John Farry from Garrison, who is widely recognised as one of Ireland\u2019s top songwriters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis song was written by my manager John Farry especially for his daughter\u2019s wedding,\u201d David explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen he played it for me first I instantly knew I wanted to record it. It\u2019s a beautiful song and I hope that you will like the official music video.\u201d<\/p>\n
