{"id":347458,"date":"2026-03-15T12:21:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T12:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/347458\/"},"modified":"2026-03-15T12:21:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T12:21:10","slug":"wexford-locals-bewildered-by-strange-light-in-night-sky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/347458\/","title":{"rendered":"Wexford locals bewildered by &#8216;strange light&#8217; in night sky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wexford residents were looking out for aliens on Saturday night after spotting a \u2018strange\u2019 beam of light in the sky.<\/p>\n<p>While it appears that no extraterrestrials arrived in <a href=\"https:\/\/extra.ie\/tag\/wexford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gorey<\/a>, many people are still wondering what caused the odd sight.<\/p>\n<p>A post shared by Alan O\u2019Reilly of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CarlowWeather\/status\/2032913159544254711\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Carlow Weather<\/a> on social media showed the narrow pillar of light from different angles, with users quick to share their thoughts on what it may have been.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/HDZbvhIXEAAsGmO.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1754656\"  \/>Alan O\u2019Reilly shared a photo of the light on social media. Pic: Carlow Weather\/X<\/p>\n<p>One X user joked \u2018The WeX Files\u2019, while another asked Google if \u2018aliens like Wexford strawberries\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>While another jokingly queried \u2018Have Wexford developed their own rockets to rival SpaceX?\u2019, it appears that this looks to be closest to the cause.<\/p>\n<p>Many people pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/extra.ie\/2026\/01\/18\/news\/musk-chaos-monkey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elon Musk\u2019s<\/a> SpaceX had a rocket launch take place in Florida earlier in the day, which is likely what caused the beam of light.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/HDZbvhGXYAEhLjG.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1754658\"  \/>Wexford locals were puzzled by the \u2018strange\u2019 beam. Pic: Carlow Weather\/X<\/p>\n<p>The shape and size of the light match photos from the launch from Cape Canaveral.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX\u2019s Falcon 9 cut through the clouds at 12.37pm Irish time to deliver 29 Starlink V2 Mini Optimised satellites into low Earth orbit.<\/p>\n<p>While the launch happened much earlier in the day than when the light was spotted, the rocket\u2019s trail can still be visible for hours afterwards.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2256975350-e1770631130885.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1744981\"  \/>The light appears to be connected to a SpaceX rocket launch.
