Jens Berthel Askou deserves a lot of credit for the job he has done at Motherwell amid interest from Celtic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to\u00a0Football Insider, as Celtic search for their next permanent managerial appointment.<\/p>\n

Askou has done a remarkable job during his first season at Fir Park, with Motherwell sitting fourth in the Scottish Premiership table, just five points below Celtic.<\/p>\n

As interim boss Martin O\u2019Neill will stand down as Celtic manager<\/a> at the end of the season, Askou is among the leading contenders to replace the 74-year-old at Parkhead.<\/p>\n

VISIT THE MANAGER HUB<\/a>Celtic are \u2018going to go for\u2019 Jens Berthel Askou to be their next manager<\/p>\n

Aberdeen\u2019s former chief Keith Wyness \u2013 who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs \u2013 believes Askou has got Motherwell \u201cplaying the best football in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking on the new edition of\u00a0Football Insider\u2018s Inside Track podcast<\/a>, Wyness thinks Askou could be a good fit for Celtic.<\/p>\n

He told\u00a0Football Insider\u2018s Inside Track podcast: \u201cI think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0pretty much nailed\u00a0on. I think\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0going to be the one that\u00a0Celtic\u00a0are\u00a0going to go for. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes a lot more sense\u00a0than\u00a0Wilfried\u00a0Nancy,\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0for sure. And I think\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0some amazing stats that I saw coming out now, that I think this time of the season, for the very first time, there are two clubs that\u00a0have got\u00a0better goal differences than the Old Firm. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0the only thing\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0ever happened before, or at least\u00a0way back\u00a0to the 60s before something like that happened.\u00a0Motherwell are\u00a0probably playing\u00a0the best football in the league themselves. Hearts are\u00a0obviously playing well, but Motherwell\u00a0are\u00a0playing incredibly well. The manager there\u00a0has got\u00a0a lot of kudos for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic have yet to make a final decision on Marcelo Saracchi\u2019s future<\/a> at the club.<\/p>\n

Saracchi is on loan at Celtic from Boca Juniors, and has started just eight Scottish Premiership games this season as he sits behind Kieran Tierney in the pecking order.<\/p>\n
