It was another big night for Ireland at the Oscars as Kerry’s Jessie Buckley took home the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, with her husband Freddie Sorensen pictured smiling and on the verge of tears as she took to the stage to accept the accolade.<\/p>\n

Buckley paid a heartfelt tribute to her rarely seen husband in her acceptance speech, she said: “You, Fred, I love you man. I love you; you’re the most incredible dad.<\/p>\n

“You’re my best friend, and I want to have 20,000 more babies with you, I do. I do! And Isla, my little girl who is eight months, who has absolutely no idea what’s going on and is probably dreaming of milk, but this is kind of a big deal, and I love you and I love being your mom, and I can’t want to discover life beside you.”<\/p>\n

Jessie Buckley met her husband on a blind date, and the pair have been madly in love ever since. The couple married in 2023 and welcomed their first child, a daughter, last year. However, Freddie never walks the red carpet with his wife, and Jessie has kept him extremely private for the most part.<\/p>\n

Speaking with British Vogue in January 2026, Buckley shared that Freddie remains largely anonymous because of his work. However, she described him as “extraordinary” and joked that he’s been “having a ball eating canap\u00e9s” behind the scenes at her promotional events for Hamnet.<\/p>\n

The couple were first set up on a blind date by a music executive and went for a walk along Regent’s Canal in London, before going for drinks – and the rest was history.<\/p>\n

Jessie previously divulged that Freddie was from Islington, an inner-city area of north London, and works in the mental health field, which is why she keeps his identity out of the limelight.<\/p>\n

The couple planned their wedding in seven weeks, tying the knot at their countryside home in 2023. The celebration, attended by just 40 guests, was catered by Towpath, a caf\u00e9 in London that they frequented when they first started dating.<\/p>\n

“One of my favorite memories of the day was … I wanted a keg of Guinness, and I definitely wanted their cheese toasties at a certain hour,” Buckley recalled on Table Manners.<\/p>\n

The 2023 SAG strike gave the newlyweds extra time to travel, allowing them to take several trips together after their wedding instead of just one honeymoon.<\/p>\n

“We actually just kind of bottled into friend’s holidays. Loads of friends were going away, and they just rented a place … it was really nice,” Buckley said. “Usually I’m away shooting or something, and because of the strike, everything got moved, so I’ve had a whole year just to, like, hang out.”<\/p>\n

Jessie gave birth to her first child, a baby girl, in 2025, but it was only on Sunday night she revealed her name was Isla. She did discuss becoming a parent on The New York Times’s Modern Love podcast in December, saying: “I really can see her little personality start to come through. I see this life force in her and determination. And I hope she loves life as much as I do.”<\/p>\n

The couple have homes in the UK in Norfolk and Dalston, East London. Jessie explained: “We have a little flat in Dalston, though Norfolk is our heart home. We probably split 50\/50 between them at the moment. But we’ve only been in Norfolk for three years.”<\/p>\n

Explaining how they ended up there, Jessie revealed it was pure chance: “I’d never been there. We were originally going to move to Suffolk because we’d fallen in love there. Then friends of ours moved to Norfolk and bought this old place for practically nothing at auction, pulled the weeds out of it, and just did the whole thing up.<\/p>\n
