Alan Reynolds admitted his side didn’t defuse the situation as tensions boiled over before this evening’s north Dublin derby with Shelbourne at Tolka Park.<\/p>\n

Players and backroom team members from both clubs engaged in a bit of pushing and shoving before the game kicked off.<\/p>\n

The scenes had slight echoes of another infamous shemozzle that happened, as the crow flies, about 700 metres across the northside. That was the 2006 All-Ireland football semi-final, when Dublin took umbrage with Mayo warming up at their “end” in front of Hill 16.<\/p>\n

This evening, it was Shelbourne who were in the way of the Bohemians players as they went to applaud their supporters before the game.<\/p>\n

After everyone calmed down, what followed was 90 minutes of a stalemate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Asked afterwards about the incident, Bohs manager Reynolds admitted that his side hadn’t approached the situation in the best manner.<\/p>\n

“We take some of the blame, ” he told RT\u00c9 Sport. “We went down too far to clap the fans.<\/p>\n

“I was standing on the halfway line going, ‘where are we going here?’<\/p>\n

“We went down too far and in fairness to them, if it was us, we’d do the same and be annoyed. Then it just kicked on from there.<\/p>\n

“So, we take our part. I’m not sure of the reaction from them. I don’t know their part, but we could have helped if we’d not gone down that far.”<\/p>\n

Pushed on the fact that some of the backroom teams, from both sides, got involved, Reynolds added: “You’ve got to protect your players, but look, if you don’t go down as far, there’s no problem.”<\/p>\n

The result maintains Bohs’ unbeaten start to the season on a night when three of the five games ended without a goal scored.<\/p>\n

They lead St Patrick’s Athletic, who were held by Derry City, by three points with defending champions Shamrock Rovers, who drew with Drogheda United, a further two points back.<\/p>\n

“We were disappointed with the first game against Pats,” Reynolds explained when asked about a start to the campaign which has them top of the table.<\/p>\n

“We felt we didn’t turn up at all, so that’s one that’s irked us a little bit.<\/p>\n

“It’s been good, but we go on to Friday now against Dundalk and there’s a wee international break then.<\/p>\n

“We want to finish this series, these three games, with a win.”<\/p>\n
