When you turn on the new Handheld Boost Mode, the Switch 2 will force original Switch games to run as if the console is connected to a TV, allowing for better visuals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The update should give original Switch titles a much-needed visual boost, as they were previously limited to running in 720p in handheld mode \u2014 the resolution supported by the Switch 1\u2019s screen. By making Switch 1 titles run in TV mode, games should be able to take advantage of the Switch 2\u2019s 1080p display.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/en-americas-support.nintendo.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/68475\/~\/how-to-use-handheld-mode-boost-on-nintendo-switch%26nbsp%3B2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">support page on its website<\/a>, Nintendo says you can turn on the feature by navigating to the Switch 2\u2019s settings menu, selecting \u201cSystem,\u201d and then hitting \u201cNintendo Switch Software Handling.\u201d From there, you can toggle \u201cHandheld Mode Boost\u201d on or off. The company doesn\u2019t provide a list of supported games, and instead notes that the performance will \u201cvary\u201d based on the title. \u201cSome Nintendo Switch software will be unaffected, and this option has no effect on software for Nintendo Switch 2,\u201d Nintendo says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Since the feature makes supported Switch games run in TV Mode, Nintendo says \u201ccertain functionality may be affected.\u201d That means the game might not use the Switch 2\u2019s touchscreen and could \u201ccause attached Joy-Con 2 controllers to be treated as a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller,\u201d according to Nintendo. Using Handheld Boost Mode may also drain the Switch 2\u2019s battery faster.
