AI frequently depends on photonics, among other technologies, and Coherent, the first Cowen pick on our radar, is a global leader in the field of photonics and lasers for both data center communications and general industry. Coherent\u2019s products are top-tier, and the company\u2019s customer base \u2013 in a range of markets, including the industrial, instrumentation, networking, and AI fields \u2013 depends on it for the latest in optoelectronic and digital communications technology, among other things.<\/p>\n
Drilling down, it\u2019s clear that Coherent offers a diverse and adaptable product line. These include laser and optical subsystems, optical transceivers, and advanced fiber optic lines, all of which have applications in networking and industry, and are used as essential components in optical network infrastructure. This tech is the hardware that made so much of our digital world possible: the internet, cloud computing, and now AI. Without this technological foundation, much of today\u2019s optically-based global network would simply flounder.<\/p>\n

Coherent\u2019s products are also used in a variety of autonomous, independent technologies. Such tech as LiDAR, sensors, and even touch screens all depend on advanced optics in their functioning, and that is exactly the field that Coherent excels at.<\/p>\n
In February, Coherent reported its results for fiscal 2Q26. In that quarter, the $1.69 billion revenue total was up over 17% year-over-year, and beat the forecast by $50 million. The company\u2019s bottom line, of $1.29 per share in non-GAAP accounting, was up 35% from the prior year and was 8 cents per share above the estimates.<\/p>\n
Checking in with Cowen analyst Sean O\u2019Loughlin, we find the sector expert taking an upbeat view of Coherent, based on its strong fundamentals. He writes of the company, \u201cWe believe Coherent is very well positioned to benefit from ongoing AI infrastructure spending across all three scaling domains (up, out, and across). We see the company\u2019s positioning in scale up co-packaged optics as especially attractive, representing an entirely greenfield growth opportunity for Coherent. Our constructive thesis is bolstered by what we see as a more-defensive business model through its vertical integration and its sticky, high-margin (though slower growing) industrial business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arista was founded in 2004, and today is known for its hardware and software, and its ability to deliver results for the client-to-cloud networking segment of the AI world. The company\u2019s physical networking devices are deployed in high-end AI cloud networks, and Arista has built on its reputation for quality and now boasts a market cap of $170 billion.<\/p>\n Among the devices in its product line are such vital components as routers and switches, and stacks and racks \u2013 the hardware skeletons of a cloud network. Arista has designed these products to fit in expandable, scalable network builds \u2013 this modular design makes the company\u2019s products eminently suitable to the AI world, where systems need to be configurable \u2013 customers and users may have as few as 100 computers or servers, or as many as 100,000 \u2013 but either way, they will need a system that is reliable, and capable of growth.<\/p>\n Arista works with more than 10,000 customers, and counts such major names as AWS, Broadcom, Palo Alto Networks, Salesforce, and Microsoft among its partners. Arista is known for its networking expertise, among cloud-computing leaders and providers, and its products are widely used in data centers worldwide.<\/p>\n Arista reported sound results in its last financial release, which covered 4Q25. The company\u2019s $2.49 billion revenue total was up 29% year-over-year and came in $100 million better than had been anticipated. On earnings, Arista realized a non-GAAP EPS of $0.82, which was 6 cents per share better than had been forecast.<\/p>\n Cowen\u2019s O\u2019Loughlin is taking a positive position on the stock, saying in his recent note, \u201cWe view Arista as likely to emerge as the preferred vendor of choice for Ethernet-based scale out and scale across switching based on its strong foundational software and hardware design IP. Further, we believe Arista has the potential to participate in the merchant scale up switch market via its Blue Box strategy, though we believe that would drive upside to investor expectations and see it as a \u2018possible\u2019\u00a0rather than a \u2018probable.\u201d<\/p>\n Quantifying that stance, O\u2019Loughlin gives the shares a Buy rating with a $170 price target to suggest a one-year gain of 26%.<\/p>\n This stock is selling for $135.35 and its $181.79 average price target implies a 12-month upside of 34%.
