Chelsea Handler paints herself as a \u201cvictim,\u201d claiming the Los Angeles mansion she bought from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines <\/a>is a money pit \u2014 but sources told Page Six she\u2019s just using it as an opportunity to \u201cmalign and discredit\u201d the couple.<\/p>\n

The lefty comic claimed the US Secretary of Health and Human Services and his actress wife sold her a \u201ctoxic\u201d house in the swanky Brentwood neighborhood \u2014 and now jokes she has probably got \u201cchlamydia, measles and herpes\u201d from 72-year-old Kennedy.<\/p>\n

But insiders familiar with the situation argue that it was up to Handler to raise any \u201cred flags\u201d when she snapped up the property back in October 2021 for $5.9 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cChelsea victimized herself,\u201d one source told us. \u201cShe pulled the trigger on a $6 million house, and it was her responsibility and her inspector\u2019s [to raise issues].\u00a0Why is she waiting five years later to bring it up?\u201d<\/p>\n

The source believes Handler is striking out because \u201cshe doesn\u2019t care for the [Trump] administration \u2014 she hates Trump and anyone associated with him, that\u2019s the reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler, 51, insisted Kennedy and Hines had left the circa-1937 home, which they owned for four years, in such a state of disrepair that she was unable to move in \u2014\u00a0saying on her \u201cDear Chelsea\u201d podcast earlier this month, \u201cI still have not lived in this house. That\u2019s how f\u2013ked up this house was.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

But nobody \u201cput a gun to her head\u201d to complete the purchase, said the source, insisting, \u201cAny issues with the property were only discovered as Chelsea\u2019s team started to tear down walls for a major remodel. It\u2019s an older house, and she had every opportunity to check it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler also said that she only found out who the previous owners were when \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d star Hines, 60, left her a letter at the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cCheryl Hines sent me a note saying \u2018Thank you, we\u2019re so excited you bought our house. Let us know if there\u2019s anything we can do,\u2019\u201d Handler said on her podcast. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Oh no! I bought RFK Jr.\u2019s house?\u2019 Like the one person in the world that I would flag whose house not to buy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler bought Kennedy and Hines\u2019 house in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles for $5.9 million back in October 2021\u2014\u00a0but only recently moved in due to a torrent of issues, the comedian said. Google Maps<\/p>\n

The source said, \u201cIt was a beautiful handwritten note wishing someone good luck with their life in their new house\u2026 It\u2019s not like Cheryl and Bobby were trying to offload some toxic house \u2014\u00a0that didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything Chelsea has said paints herself as the victim,\u201d the source added. \u201cPeople can\u2019t afford gas and groceries, and you think people are going to feel sorry for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Handler\u2019s complaints, the five-bed, six-bathroom property has apparently already gone up in value, with Zillow reporting it\u2019s worth a whopping $8 million.<\/p>\n

Handler, meanwhile, continued to poke fun at the house sale during a Tuesday appearance on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Handler joked to Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday she has probably got \u201cchlamydia, measles and herpes\u201d from health secretary Kennedy having lived in the house.<\/p>\n

Handler revealed she has just moved into her home, four years after buying it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took me four years to move in,\u201d she said. \u201cThere [were] a lot of problems with the house \u2014 I blame [Kennedy] \u2014 and that didn\u2019t get caught during inspection. And a lot of drama with the house. But I did just move in for the first time yesterday. So, I\u2019m good.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I have chlamydia, herpes, and what else does he have?\u201d Handler joked of Kennedy, 72. \u201cOh, measles. I have chlamydia, measles and herpes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler has previously said that President Trump\u2019s 2016 election<\/a> triggered deep distress similar to the loss of a family member, leading her to therapy \u2013 and said she had even pondered a move to Spain.<\/p>\n

On her podcast, Handler claimed that engineers \u201copened up the house\u201d and told her, \u201c\u2018This house is the most toxic environment. You cannot live here for at least two years.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not exaggerating. It was a disaster, and I didn\u2019t know it going in \u2026 ,\u201d she said on her podcast, claiming that at east three people told her the home was \u201ccursed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

We have reached out to Handler, Kennedy and Hines for comment.<\/p>\n

Rick Tyberg of Tyberg Duffy Group, Douglas Elliman,<\/a> told Page Six that a \u201cgeneral inspection\u201d is just a starting point when buying a house.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat really matters is knowing when to bring in the right specialists, whether that\u2019s for water intrusion, mold, foundation issues, drainage or anything else that raises a flag,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of these issues are serious and, more importantly, they\u2019re often open-ended. What looks manageable on the surface can quickly turn into something extremely expensive or worse, something that follows the buyers financially long after they close,\u201d Tyberg said.<\/p>\n
