A Waterford councillor has criticised poor signage on the N25 near the speed camera, saying it is leading to local drivers receiving speeding fines.<\/p>\n
Niamh O\u2019Donovan raised the issue at a recent plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.<\/p>\n
Drivers \u201cCaught Out\u201d<\/p>\n
Cllr O\u2019Donovan said the speed camera near the Kilkenny stretch of the N25 is catching drivers who travel from Wexford back into Waterford.<\/p>\n
She said the road changes from 100 kilometres per hour to 80 kilometres per hour without enough clear warning.<\/p>\n
She argued that the wide, open nature of the road makes it difficult for drivers to notice the reduced speed limit in time.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donovan said the lack of clear signage is leading to drivers being \u201chit hard\u201d with fines.<\/p>\n
She added that many motorists feel frustrated because they do not realise they have entered a lower speed zone.<\/p>\n
Council Stresses Responsibility on Drivers<\/p>\n
Gabriel Hynes, Director of Services for Roads, said drivers must follow posted speed limits at all times.<\/p>\n
He said speed limits exist to protect road users and improve safety.<\/p>\n
Hynes said he does not support drivers who receive fines for speeding. He added that drivers must stay aware of speed changes and adjust their driving accordingly.<\/p>\n
Call for Clearer Signage<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donovan urged the council to address signage on the route.<\/p>\n
She said clearer warnings would help drivers recognise speed changes and avoid penalties.<\/p>\n
The issue highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and driver awareness on one of the region\u2019s busiest routes.<\/p>\n
