{"id":354014,"date":"2026-03-19T08:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T08:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/354014\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T08:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T08:28:08","slug":"donegal-students-shine-at-all-ireland-linguistics-final-held-in-dcu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/354014\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal students shine at All-Ireland Linguistics final held in DCU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two students from Donegal competed at the National Final of the 18th All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO), hosted by the ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University (DCU).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Euan Stewart from Moville Community College and St Columba\u2019s Comprehensive School&#8217;s Maria McLoone competed among over 100 finalists from 56 schools nationwide for the chance to represent Ireland at the International Linguistics Olympiad in Bucharest, Romania this July.\u00a0\u00a0The finalists progressed through a preliminary round, involving nearly 1,000 competitors, held in schools earlier this year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The competition challenges students to apply logic and reasoning to decode unfamiliar languages by analysing the language data they are given to work out the \u2018rules\u2019 of the new language.
