It\u2019s not a proper awards season without Martin McDonagh<\/a> in the mix. The Oscar-winning \u201cThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri\u201d and \u201cThe Banshees of Inisherin\u201d writer\/director is back with his first feature film<\/a> in four years, \u201cWild Horse Nine<\/a>.\u201d He reteams with his Oscar-winning \u201cThree Billboards\u201d star Sam Rockwell<\/a> for another dark comedy, this time set in 1970s Chile and aided by John Malkovich in the cast. They play wisecracking, louche CIA agents, with Rockwell in a so-on-period mustache. Watch the trailer from Searchlight Pictures below.<\/p>\n

More on the film from Searchlight, which released McDonagh\u2019s last two films, both hits at the Oscars: \u201cShortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA agents Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell) are dispatched from Santiago to Easter island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi). Amongst the Island\u2019s iconic statues, and as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris\u2019s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ail\u00edn Salas) threatens to send everyone\u2019s trip to this remote paradise sideways.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a> \"'Ready<\/a> <\/p>\n

The cast overall includes Malkovich, Rockwell, Buscemi, di Girolamo, Salas, Tom Waits (!), and Parker Posey (!!!), and with a November 6 release date, it\u2019s safe to say that like McDonagh\u2019s recent output, \u201cWild Horse Nine\u201d will skip Cannes in favor of Venice and the rest of the fall festivals. <\/p>\n

McDonagh\u2019s previous film, \u201cThe Banshees of Inisherin,\u201d was nominated for nine Oscars, sadly losing all of them. But \u201cThree Billboards\u201d won for Supporting Actor Rockwell and Best Actress Frances McDormand. McDonagh\u2019s own Oscar for writing and directing the 2004 live action short \u201cSix Shooter\u201d (he was robbed for \u201cIn Bruges\u201d four years later).<\/p>\n

The film is produced by Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Martin McDonagh<\/a>, and Anita Overland. Carter Burwell is back to write the original score, with Ben Davis heading up photography.<\/p>\n
