\n\tThe DHS has responded to Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>\u2018s recent remarks about the department\u2019s use of one of her songs in a video promoting ICE.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a statement shared with Billboard on Thursday (March 19) \u2014 just hours after the singer\u2019s British Vogue cover story was published, featuring Rodrigo<\/a> calling ICE\u2019s actions \u201cdisturbing\u201d \u2014 a spokesperson for the DHS said, \u201cAmerica is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice,\u201d it continued. \u201cICE does NOT separate families. Parents are given a choice to either take their child with them or place them in the care of someone they designate. This is consistent with past administration\u2019s immigration enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard has reached out to Rodrigo\u2019s rep for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first sentence in the DHS spokesperson\u2019s comment references lyrics in Rodrigo\u2019s \u201cAll-American Bitch,\u201d the song used in a November video glorifying footage <\/a>of ICE officers tackling and forcibly detaining people. At the time, the Grammy winner had commented, \u201cdon\u2019t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFour months later, Rodrigo again condemned ICE in British Vogue. \u201cThat was awful. Dystopian,\u201d she said of finding out the agency had used her Billboard Hot 100<\/a> hit without permission. \u201cThe way that ICE is ripping apart communities and terrorizing people is so disturbing. It\u2019s a really sad, scary time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEven before the unauthorized song usage, Rodrigo was speaking out against ICE. Amid the organization\u2019s raids on immigrant communities in Los Angeles last year, she wrote <\/a>on her Instagram Story, \u201cI\u2019ve lived in LA my whole life and I\u2019m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbors under the current administration \u2026 Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNumerous other stars have voiced criticism for the actions of ICE under President Donald Trump as well, particularly after the deaths of Minnesotan civilians Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both of whom were shot and killed by immigration enforcement officers in Minneapolis at the beginning of the year. The DHS has also hit back at other musicians beyond Rodrigo, claiming in a statement to Billboard<\/a> that Billie Eilish was spreading \u201cgarbage rhetoric\u201d by resharing posts calling ICE a \u201cterrorist organization\u201d in January.<\/p>\n
