A traffic management plan will be put in place from this evening as Uisce \u00c9ireann attend to a major water mains burst in Cork.<\/p>\n

The “significant” burst occurred on the N71, Bandon Road yesterday evening. Due to high volumes of the traffic<\/a> in the area, a traffic management plan has been agreed and will be in place from 8pm today to facilitate the repair works. Uisce \u00c9ireann has also warned that customers in Ardrostig, Bishopstown and surrounding areas may experience disruptions to their water supply.<\/p>\n

Works are estimated to be completed by 4am tomorrow (Friday, March 20).<\/p>\n

Alternative water supplies will also be provided, with a water tanker available at Ardrostig Lane. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n

Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce \u00c9ireann, said: \u201cDue to the nature of this burst and its location, a traffic management plan had to be agreed with the relevant authorities to prioritise the safety of the repair crew, road users, and the general public. Repair works are due to be completed by 4am; however, it may take a number of hours for water pressure to return to normal at higher elevations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company added: ” Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all affected customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges. “<\/p>\n

Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce \u00c9ireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
