Tina Turner died nearly three years ago, but that’s not going to stop people from monetizing her name, image, likeness, and most of her music catalog. Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment has just acquired all of these things from the music company BMG, the Associated Press reports today. Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos told the outlet that Turner’s estate was not involved “as a counterparty but certainly involved and in the sense of informed and participating in the conversations” regarding the sale. Those conversations began after Turner’s death.

Founded by ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus, Pophouse is probably most famous for its work with that band, including ABBA Voyage, the virtual concert residency consisting of “ABBAtars,” as in holograms. AP reports that Koravos wouldn’t confirm yet whether there was a Tina Turner on the way but did say they would make an announcement about it in the next six months, which definitely makes it sound like there’s a Tina Turner hologram on the way, if you ask us. “What we want to do is really help to consolidate her legacy,” Koravos said. “I think that Tina Turner is up there, or is going to be up there, with the Elvises and the Marilyn Monroes of the world.”

It’s not hard to imagine why a company like this, which has bought Cyndi Lauper’s catalog and the entire KISS brand in recent years, would be interested in Turner. Beyond her music, Turner’s story of resilience and reclaiming her own agency resonated with people across the world and across generations. Trying to capture that with an avatar seems like a fool’s errand, but in a time when deceased movie stars are being recreated wholesale by AI for movies, we can’t say we’re especially surprised that someone decided to try.

Tina Turner died nearly three years ago, but that’s not going to stop people from monetizing her name,…

[28
93,61,60,278
post-355815","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-music","tag-entertainment","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-music
["GET
