{"id":357028,"date":"2026-03-21T01:23:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T01:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/357028\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T01:23:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T01:23:10","slug":"examiner-appointed-to-skelligs-chocolate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/357028\/","title":{"rendered":"Examiner appointed to Skelligs Chocolate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paddy McKillen Jr has succeeded in having an examiner appointed to <a href=\"https:\/\/skelligschocolate.com\/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23523020398&amp;gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2ZeO1u6ukwMVCpdQBh3rmjleEAAYASAAEgIe6fD_BwE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skelligs Chocolate<\/a>, offering the business a temporary shield from its creditors.<\/p>\n<p>The company is still linked to Paddy Mc Killen Jnr despite reports recently that it was in a better position and no longer part of the problem with his wider hospitality group.<\/p>\n<p>Seaclaidi Na Sceilge Teoranta, the company behind the business, is cash-flow insolvent with debts of circa \u20ac2.7 million including over \u20ac900,000 owing to the Revenue Commissioners, Dublin Circuit Court heard.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Currency website the court heard that the company was profitable up to 2022 but has made a loss each year since then.<\/p>\n<p>The court was also told market conditions and cost pressures are the source of the firm\u2019s difficulties, particularly global inflation and supply chain disruptions post-Covid, including rising energy costs.<\/p>\n<p>In November, a petition was sought to wind up the operating company linked to Paddy McKillen Junior.<\/p>\n<p>At the time it was understood that the D\u00fan Laoghaire firm Resolute Advisory applied to the High Court to have Seaclaidi na Sceilge Teoranta wound up.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the 25 workers at the company based in St Finian\u2019s Bay Ballinskelligs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/jobs-secure-at-skelligs-chocolate-in-iveragh-gaeltacht-471363\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">were told their jobs were secure<\/a> and that future plans for the company included expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Examinership is a court-supervised process allowing an insolvent company to restructure, offering protection from creditors for up to 100 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Paddy McKillen Jr has succeeded in having an examiner appointed to Skelligs Chocolate, offering the business a temporary&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":357029,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[72,61,60,161844],"class_list":{"0":"post-357028","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-business","8":"tag-business","9":"tag-ie","10":"tag-ireland","11":"tag-skelligs"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/357028","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=357028"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/357028\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/357029"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=357028"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=357028"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=357028"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
