{"id":358220,"date":"2026-03-21T18:51:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/358220\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T18:51:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:51:15","slug":"child-7-injured-in-fall-from-balcony-in-waterford-released-from-hospital-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/358220\/","title":{"rendered":"Child (7) injured in fall from balcony in Waterford released from hospital \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One of the two children injured in a fall from a second-storey apartment balcony on Friday in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waterford<\/a> city has been released from hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sister and brother Nevaeh (7) and Jayden (3) O\u2019Neill fell from the balcony at Mount Suir apartments in Gracedieu at 10.40am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A number of ambulances, fire units, garda\u00ed and Waterford City and County Council officials have been attending the incident at Block C, Mount Suir apartments, in Waterford city. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The siblings fell more than 20ft when a pane of glass on the balcony railing crashed to the ground. They had been playing with two other siblings who were not injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The two children were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford (UHW). Nevaeh was discharged from hospital on Friday night and returned home to her parents Ryan O\u2019Neill and Regina Smith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Jayden, who was transferred to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin as a precautionary measure due to head injuries, remains under medical care. He narrowly missed falling on a large shard of glass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council has owned Block C of the Mount Suir apartment complex for the past six years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda forensic teams have examined the balcony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement Waterford City and County Council said it has been notified of a serious incident at the Mount Suir Apartment complex in Waterford City on Friday, March 20th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council confirmed it has opened an investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe council has reached out to the family to offer support and a formal investigation into the incident has commenced,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mayor of Waterford City and Council S\u00e9amus Ryan said his thoughts and prayers are with the family involved and the children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe council are fully investigating what happened and a structural engineer is on site currently.
