<\/p>\nThe man – understood to be in his early 40s – suffered critical injuries when the motorbike he was competing on spun out of control.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at Sunday lunchtime during a competition at the popular Vernon Mount motocross track off Cork’s Kinsale Road.<\/p>\n
Emergency personnel immediately went to the assistance of the biker.<\/p>\n
He was unresponsive and, despite the best efforts of track medical personnel and paramedics, his condition could not be stabilised.<\/p>\n

The man was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH).<\/p>\n
It is believed he suffered critical head and neck injuries in the incident.<\/p>\n
The man’s body will be removed to the morgue at CUH.<\/p>\n
The Office of the State Pathologist and the Cork Coroner have been informed.<\/p>\n
A full post mortem examination will be conducted at CUH with the findings to be supplied to the coroner.<\/p>\n
The incident is being treated as a tragic accident.<\/p>\n
It is understood the man is from the south Munster area but he will not be named until all relatives have been informed.<\/p>\n
It is the second death of a motorcyclist in 24 hours.<\/p>\n
A man in his 70s died in Cahir, Co Tipperary, when the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a van on the N24 shortly after 11am on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators with local diversions in place.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.<\/p>\n
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10.45am and 11.15am this morning, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cahir Garda Station on (052) 7445630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.<\/p>\n
A total of 124 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.<\/p>\n
Of those deaths, 41 have involved motorcyclists, pillion passengers, pedal cyclists and e-scooter users.<\/p>\n
It is the second motorsport tragedy to hit Cork in the space of four months.<\/p>\n
