Money expert Martin Lewis has encouraged motorists concerned about the sharply rising cost of petrol <\/a>and diesel to use a credit or debit card for payment rather than cash.<\/p>\n

The last few weeks have seen petrol and diesel prices surge <\/a>more than 30 cents per litre due to the ongoing conflict in the middle East, with no end in sight.<\/p>\n

To help with the cost, the Government has said they will introduce “concrete measures” <\/a>on Tuesday to address the escalating cost of oil and gas, the T\u00e1naiste has confirmed.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Simon Harris stated a “series of measures” are planned to help with price increases triggered by the conflict in the Middle East.<\/a><\/p>\n

Asked if people in Ireland would see “concrete measures in place” on Tuesday, he replied: “Correct, yes, they will.”<\/p>\n

Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, founder and editor returned on Tuesday, 17 March with a series of financial tips following the rapidly deteriorating Middle East crisis, which has already caused energy prices, oil and petrol and diesel costs to surge.<\/p>\n

However, shrewd drivers could trim expenses by paying with plastic instead of cash, capitalising on leading cashback deals available through either debit or credit cards.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the ITV programme, Martin said: “Get paid to pay for your fuel. And lots of other things too. By using a top cashback card.<\/p>\n

“It’s a credit card though so make sure you pay it off IN FULL each month, preferably by direct debit or the interest cost dwarfs the cashback gained.”<\/p>\n

Martin additionally encouraged motorists to adopt some straightforward measures to reduce their fuel consumption, such as taking off heavy roof racks, limiting air conditioning use and accelerating and braking more gently, which consumes less fuel.<\/p>\n
