Shane Power of St Josephs Athletics Club took home the silver medal from the All-Ireland Indoor Senior Pole Vault Championships held in the National Indoor Arena, Abbotstown, Dublin recently after a close battle for first place. <\/p>\n

Shane entered the competition at 4.00m and quickly moved up to 4.20m, which he cleared on his first attempt. At this stage it was down to just two athletes left in the competition, Shane and Michael Kent.<\/p>\n

Both found the higher height of 4.40m more challenging, but Shane cleared it on his second attempt. At this point, should Michael have failed on his third attempt, the title would have went to Shane. However, with Michael being the reigning indoor champion, he was successful at that height and the bar was raised even higher.<\/p>\n

Moving up to 4.50m, Shane was extremely close to clearing it on his second attempt. But swooping in again for a third-attempt clearance, Michael succeeded and took home the gold, with Shane close behind in second place.<\/p>\n

Over the last few years Shane found new training bases in St Laurence O’Toole\u2019s Athletics Club Carlow and National Indoor Arena, Dublin. Throughout the years, since first taking up the sport in 2014, he has found a love and enjoyment in it, and has been committed to working his way to becoming the reigning Leinster Champion Indoor and Outdoor and also holds the Leinster Championship record of 4.56m since 2021.<\/p>\n

Shane now holds four senior All-Ireland medals, and is hoping to grasp the elusive All-Ireland gold when the opportunity comes. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Shane Power of St. Joseph’s AC took silver in the National Senior Indoor Championships Polevault.
