It was a success a long time in the making, but now Jessie Buckley has made it to the top of the Hollywood heap… but it may not mean as much for her wallet<\/a> as it would have in the past.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jessie Buckley<\/a> can now command up to \u20ac5million per film in the wake of her Oscar win last week, according to a leading box office analyst.<\/p>\n

But the award won\u2019t transform her fortunes quite as it might have in the pre-streaming age, the expert warned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Killarney superstar became the first Irish woman to win a Best Actress Oscar last weekend, for her leading role in Hamnet.<\/a><\/p>\n

Scott Mendelson, a California-based box office columnist for Puck News, told the Irish Mail on Sunday: \u2018She\u2019s going to have the words \u201cAcademy Award winner\u201d attached to her name in almost every piece of marketing for every movie she does from here on in \u2013 which is nice.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pundit estimated that the tag could see her fee rise to around \u20ac2.6million to \u20ac5.2million.<\/p>\n

\u2018If she is part of an appealing, awards-friendly, likely-to-be-prestigious package, she\u2019s probably worth, let\u2019s say, $3million to $6million,\u2019 he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018As long as she is not wholly responsible for that film\u2019s commercial success \u2013 if there\u2019s other people alongside her, especially people that are making more money \u2013 then the axe is not going to fall on her if it underwhelms.\u2019<\/p>\n

Mr Mendelson said very few actors \u2013 even Oscar-winning ones \u2013 automatically draw big crowds to theatres on the back of their name alone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Buckley would \u2018absolutely\u2019 have seen a bigger impact on her earning potential at the beginning of this century<\/p>\n

\u2018Unless you\u2019re like a Leonardo diCaprio, or a Sandra Bullock, or a Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, basically, most people will not go to see you in a non-franchise, just-a-movie movie, unless there\u2019s certain variables in your favour,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Almost everyone else has an asterisk in terms of their drawing power. Even Tom Cruise \u2013 unless he\u2019s playing Pete Mitchell [from Top Gun] or Ethan Hunt [from Mission: Impossible]<\/a> \u2013 his films have had a ceiling of under $400million (\u20ac345million) for the last 20 years.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Hollywood expert said that Buckley would \u2018absolutely\u2019 have seen a bigger impact on her earning potential at the beginning of this century, \u2018because she would have had the kind of films on which a leading-lady, star-specific career can be predicated upon\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018When you think of films that made Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts \u2013 and even to a much lesser extent, because of racism, Angela Bassett \u2013 we don\u2019t get Waiting To Exhale [starring Bassett] anymore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t get While You Were Sleeping [Bullock], or Something To Talk About, or Sleeping With The Enemy [both Roberts].\u2019<\/p>\n

Films like Pretty Woman or Sleeping with the Enemy which made Julia Roberts a star, just aren’t made for theatrical release anymore<\/p>\n

\u2018These films don\u2019t exist at the mainstream theatrical level. Some of that is the fault of the audience, some of that is the fault of the studios.\u2019<\/p>\n

Even 10 years ago, the industry expert continued, there was \u2018a large segment of people that used to go to the movies just to go to the movies\u2019, seeing both \u2018event films and the regular studio pictures\u2019, who now watch films at home instead.<\/p>\n

Mr Mendelson, who writes under the brand The Outside Scoop on Substack, predicted Buckley will continue to \u2018gravitate towards stuff that interests her\u2019 rather than chase big-money opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u2018If there is an aggressively commercial project that is appealing to her, then yeah, of course.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘But I don\u2019t think she\u2019s necessarily going to go, \u201cFind me a superhero movie to do,\u201d or \u201cPut me in a Star Wars.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n

It is not only in her acting fees that Buckley can expect a financial boon from her Oscar win.<\/p>\n

Whispers from inside the fashion world suggest a mega-money contract to become the face of Chanel\u2019s Le Beige beauty range are well underway, which sources say could add a further \u20ac1.85million to \u20ac4.6million to Jessie\u2019s annual earnings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Jessie has that rare mix of high-fashion edge and girl-next-door relatability,\u2019 one fashion watcher told the MoS.<\/p>\n

\u2018She never overdoes the makeup, she\u2019s a true natural beauty.\u2019<\/p>\n
