{"id":364120,"date":"2026-03-25T09:57:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T09:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/364120\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T09:57:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T09:57:14","slug":"rural-ireland-like-youve-never-seen-it-at-mayo-national-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/364120\/","title":{"rendered":"Rural Ireland like you\u2019ve never seen it at Mayo National Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new photographic exhibition offering a unique perspective on rural Ireland has opened in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayonews.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mayo<\/a>, using skateboarding as a lens to explore overlooked spaces and local history.<\/p>\n<p>R\u00f3id\u00edn, now on display at the National Museum of Ireland \u2013 Country Life, brings together a series of images capturing narrow country roads, forgotten places and community spaces across Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition, which opens on March 24 at the Courtyard Gallery in Turlough Park, takes its name from an Old Irish word meaning a small road or lane off the beaten track.<\/p>\n<p>Compiled in 2025 for the skateboarding publication Goblin Magazine, the project documents rural locations often rich in social and cultural history. Many of the sites featured have served multiple roles over time \u2014 from road bowling and handball to informal gatherings, raves and car meet-ups.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayonews.ie\/news\/home\/2046100\/mayo-artists-featured-in-major-national-ceramics-exhibition.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">READ MORE:\u00a0Mayo artists featured in major national ceramics exhibition<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the exhibition, Philip Halton of Goblin Magazine said the project aims to capture spaces that are often ignored.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cR\u00f3id\u00edn uses skateboarding to reach imperfect, overlooked, and often beautiful spaces outside towns and cities.
