Wrinkle-free, taut and glowing visages are analyzed by experts and non-experts alike, often resulting in a diagnosis that includes a facelift, blepharoplasty, fillers, or Botox. Yet in recent months, it is not only famous women whose faces have been studied so intently \u2013 it\u2019s the men too.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00043b6roj5jxttn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Case in point, the 51-year-old actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who made headlines at this year\u2019s Academy Awards not for his work, but for his distinctly less-puffy complexion. \u201cHe picked the Gua Sha up,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/megantheevalium\/status\/2033723539388260810?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote<\/a> one fan on X. \u201cFinally quit the sauce and discovered water. Also mustache is carrying 40% of this comeback,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/megantheevalium\/status\/2033723539388260810?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> another, referring to DiCaprio\u2019s new Tom Selleck-style mustache. Within hours, cosmetic surgeons were speculating over what he had or not had done, with the inevitable joke that the baseball cap and facemask he was recently seen wearing in public were to hide surgery.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00053b6rsjti5zmr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While the reaction to DiCaprio\u2019s \u201cglow-up\u201d has been largely positive, the response to fellow actor Jim Carrey\u2019s changed appearance at the C\u00e9sar Awards a few weeks prior was not so kind. The 64-year-old has made an entire career out of his rubbery facial expressions, so in fairness, it was shocking to see how immobile and tight his face now looks after several years out of the spotlight. Some online even started sharing conspiracy theories that Carrey had sent a body double to the ceremony instead of attending himself \u2013 a notion further fueled by celebrity impersonator and makeup artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/07\/09\/style\/celebrity-makeup-transformations-alexis-stone\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexis Stone<\/a>, who that week shared a photo of the actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVWs5RNDHSz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">on Instagram<\/a> captioned: \u201cAlexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.\u201d (Stone did not respond to CNN\u2019s request for comment.)\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gettyimages-2263789478.jpg\" alt=\"When Jim Carrey received the Honorary Cesar Award on February 26 in Paris, some observers weren't entirely sure if it was, in fact, him.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2499\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00063b6remy4zs8o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            They are hardly the first men in Hollywood to have been the focus of anti-aging cosmetic tweakment rumors. In January, Bradley Cooper denied he had undergone any plastic surgery on the SmartLess podcast, after people had approached him on the street asking what he\u2019d had done. Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling was at the center of a photoshop hoax that professed to show that he\u2019d had his cheeks filled \u2013 just months after he had been deemed \u201ctoo old\u201d by some online critics to play Ken in the Barbie movie. Elsewhere, Barry Keoghan\u2019s seemingly plumper lips and cheeks have led many to speculate that he\u2019s had filler. Speaking on the US broadcaster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nS9wYdDvxyA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SiriusXM<\/a> this week, Keoghan discussed how online abuse about his appearance was affecting his life, to the extent that he does \u201cnot want to go outside\u201d anymore.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00073b6rr1nuc1c1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some male celebrities have admitted to having \u201cBrotox,\u201d as the procedure, having become much more popular among men, is dubbed. Joe Jonas became the face of Xeomin, an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable viewed as an alternative to Botox, back in 2022, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allure.com\/story\/joe-jonas-injectables-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Allure<\/a> at the time: \u201cLooking your best comes from feeling your best. I make it a point to prioritize practices and routines that make me feel like the best version of myself.\u201d Meanwhile, Robbie Williams, Gordon Ramsay, Gene Simmons, Tom Sandeval and Simon Cowell have all discussed their use of Botox in the past.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00083b6rpzdvodxq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Outside of Hollywood, more men have also been going under the knife \u2013 accounting for 6.5% of total cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. And while there was a slight overall decrease in surgeries between 2023 and 2024, face and neck lifts surged 26%, \u201csuggesting a growing interest in anti-aging procedures among men,\u201d it said. Meanwhile, in the US men accounted for 6% of injectable treatments (which includes Botox and Xeomin) last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"pull-quote__text  vossi-pull-quote_elevate__text inline-placeholder\" data-editable=\"text\">\n                    \u201cTraditionally, men tended to be valued through the work that they did with their bodies \u2013 but more recently, men\u2019s value is being shifted towards the work that they do on their bodies.\u201d\n                <\/p>\n<p class=\"pull-quote__attribution inline-placeholder vossi-pull-quote_elevate__attribution\" data-editable=\"attribution\">\n                    Chris Haywood, reader in critical masculinity studies at Newcastle University\n                <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes00093b6rx96mhhmk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            So why are we seeing a rise in men seeking anti-aging tweakments now? This is likely due to a combination of factors, such as the rise of social media, video conferencing (like Zoom), and television shows like \u201cLove Island,\u201d which enforces a \u201cpicture-perfect\u201d culture that has become a major source of anxiety, particularly for younger men. Indeed, as Haywood explains, the desire to look good is viewed as a traditionally feminine quality. \u201cWhilst we see the value being transferred to how men look, the older traditional ways of viewing men don\u2019t disappear, it remains still in focus. So what you tend to find is that with straight men particularly, men are currently walking a little bit of a tightrope,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes000c3b6r7qqdhffw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Historically, men in Hollywood have been granted a lot more leniency when it comes to visibly aging. George Clooney is widely recognized as a \u201csilver fox.\u201d Harrison Ford is described as \u201cdistinguished\u201d looking. Yet now, the tide appears to be turning, with men increasingly being judged with the same doubled standards applied to female stars. But is this necessarily a good thing? For some experts, it\u2019s an indication that toxicity around ageing may only be deepening.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gettyimages-2245728917.jpg\" alt=\"George Clooney (pictured at Netflix's \" jay=\"\" kelly=\"\" la=\"\" premiere=\"\" in=\"\" november=\"\" has=\"\" been=\"\" described=\"\" by=\"\" fans=\"\" and=\"\" media=\"\" as=\"\" a=\"\" fox.=\"\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2866\" width=\"1911\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmn4kkhes000d3b6ran8cc3ze@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt shows we have attached moral value to youth, and that we read youthfulness as productivity, desirability, health, and even worthiness,\u201d said Lauren Steckles-Young, a lecturer in social studies at the University of Sunderland, in England. \u201cIn this, we have seen a blurring between \u2018health\u2019 and \u2018beauty,\u2019 meaning we assume that if we are attractive, we are healthy, and if we are healthy and attractive, we hold higher moral value. Social media amplifies this by surrounding us with filtered and curated faces that make aging seem like a failure rather than a natural process.
