Vince Vaughn has taken aim at late night television, arguing that an increasingly political tone<\/a> has driven audiences away and contributed to the genre\u2019s declining popularity.<\/p>\n

Vaughn, who has previously described himself as a political \u201clibertarian,\u201d<\/a> made the comments on MAGA-friendly comedian Theo Von\u2019s podcast this week.<\/a><\/p>\n

During the episode, Von pointed out that Hollywood is a \u201cliberal place,\u201d to which Vaughn replied, \u201cBut not really. It\u2019s more like, \u2018We\u2019re smart and got it figured out, and if you don\u2019t agree then you\u2019re an idiot.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThere was definitely a culture that if you didn\u2019t agree with these ideas, you were looked at as bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the late shows have struggled,\u201d Von pointed out. \u201cBecause the only person they could make fun of at a certain point was just like white redneck kind of people. And it f***ing tanked [ratings].\u201d<\/p>\n

Vaughn has described himself as a \u2018libertarian\u2019 politically, while claiming he isn\u2019t aligned with either the Republican or Democratic parties (AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n

The Wedding Crashers star agreed: \u201cSee, they never get it right. The podcasts have gotten so much more popular with less production, less writers [and] less staff, because people want authenticity. And I think that the talk shows, to a large part, became really agenda-based.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were gonna evangelize people to what they thought,\u201d he continued, \u201cAnd so people just rejected it because it didn\u2019t feel authentic. It felt like they had an agenda. It stopped being funny, and it started feeling like I was in a fucking class I didn\u2019t want to take.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey all became so about their politics and who\u2019s good and who\u2019s bad,\u201d the Couples Retreat actor added. \u201cImagine sitting next to someone like that on a f***ing plane. You\u2019d be like, how do I get out of this f***ing seat?\u201d<\/p>\n

Vaughn has previously stated that he isn\u2019t aligned with the Republican or Democratic parties.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely am a believer more in allowing individuals to make choices,\u201d he told The New York Times in 2024. \u201cSo I think that drugs should be legal and people should have guns.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rather say let people make their choices, and they can make different choices and have the consequences of their choices,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He faced backlash last year after posing for a photo with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office<\/a> of the White House.<\/p>\n

Asked by Von if he ever felt \u201costracized\u201d in Hollywood, Vaughn responded: \u201cI always got along with people\u2026 and try to be honest about who I am. I have opinions on both sides [of the political aisle].\u201d<\/p>\n

He said his early relationships in Hollywood were not affected by politics because \u201cwe weren\u2019t 23 sitting around talking about fucking taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIf you\u2019re constantly worried what someone else thinks of you and you\u2019re only around them a couple hours a day, you\u2019re miserable most of the time.
