Mar\u00eda Teresa Turri\u00f3n Borrallo has always played a behind-the-scenes role in the Wales household as the nanny to the three children<\/a> of Prince William and Kate Middleton. But Borrallo will be in the spotlight on Tuesday as she will receive the Royal Victorian Medal in Silver during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle<\/a>. The Prince of Wales is presenting the medal to Borrallo, 54, who has worked with the family since 2014, in recognition of her service to the royal family. The award was announced in the New Year\u2019s Honors list at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n

Established in 1896 by Queen Victoria, the Royal Victorian Medal<\/a> is awarded at the sole discretion of the monarch, without input from government ministers or independent committees, making it a direct personal expression of gratitude from the royal family. The medal comes in three metallic grades\u2014gold, silver, and bronze\u2014to denote levels of service and subsequent awards. It differs from honors such as Orders of the British Empire (OBEs) and knighthoods, which are typically awarded to more public figures.<\/p>\n

Borrallo has cared for Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, since the year following George\u2019s birth in 2013, accompanying the family on formal occasions from family christenings to royal tours around the world. Although it has been reported<\/a> she does not live with the Wales family at their home at Forest Lodge<\/a> (as they reportedly do not have live-in staff), Borrallo was recently seen arriving with William and Kate and the three children as they drove to Buckingham Palace in December for King Charles\u2019s annual Christmas lunch for the extended British royal family<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Originally from Spain, Borrallo trained at Norland College<\/a> in Bath, the institution behind the famous \u201cNorland nannies,\u201d known for their brown uniforms and emphasis on manners and respect. Founded in 1892, the college has trained nannies for 134 years and is expected to become classified as a university<\/a> later this year.<\/p>\n
