Speaking on a recent episode of Shepard\u2019s Armchair Expert podcast, the Scrubs star, 50, described how Fassbender enthusiastically approached him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was grabbed by the shoulders by Michael Fassbender,\u201d Braff said, adding that before he could respond, the Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave actor told him: \u201cI love you.” and I go, \u201cOh my God\u201d and he [Fassbender] goes, \u2018I love your work. I love everything that you do… The s*** you make is f***ing awesome. I wish we could work together.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Braff said the praise initially boosted his confidence. \u201cMy ego is like here,\u201d he explained, noting that his Scrubs co-star Donald Faison was looking on approvingly.<\/p>\n
However, the situation quickly turned. \u201cAnd then [Fassbender] goes, \u2018I mean, f***ing CHiPs, dude,\u2019\u201d Braff said, \u201cI just felt my heart sink because now, not only is it about Dax, but I don\u2019t know how to get out of this encounter. It\u2019s so cringe.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shepard, 51, directed and starred in the 2017 action-comedy CHiPs, alongside Michael Pe\u00f1a and Kristen Bell.<\/p>\n
According to Braff, Faison stepped in to correct the mix-up. \u201cDonald, being like my wife\/wingman, is like, \u2018No, man, this is Zach Braff…\u2019 [Fassbender\u2019s] face dropped, as embarrassing as it was,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd then he starts to kind of back away like, \u2018Oh man, you guys have the best night!\u2019 And Donald goes, \u2018No, no, no, you come back here.\u2019 Like a proud wife.\u201d<\/p>\n
Faison then listed several of Braff\u2019s credits, including Scrubs, Garden State, A Good Person and The Last Kiss.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s just nodding and nodding, and then I\u2019m like, Donald, let\u2019s set him free, please. He backed away and that was it. I didn\u2019t even make it out of the club.
