But the Daily Mail can now reveal that the ending in fact came months ago \u2013 not with a dramatic fallout, but with a quiet admission from Dan that, after years of trying to repair the damage caused by his past, he simply \u2018couldn\u2019t do it anymore\u2019.`<\/p>\n

Former Towie<\/a> star Dan had already moved out of the family home in November after a prolonged period in which, I\u2019m told, Eastenders<\/a> star Jac \u2018had all the power and control\u2019 but Dan \u2018couldn\u2019t do anything right, despite doing most of the childcare, and always telling her where he was\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018The truth is Dan couldn\u2019t carry on anymore,\u2019 one source tells me. \u2018Jac would have happily kept up the pretence to the outside world that they were still this happy family but he\u2019d had enough.\u2019<\/p>\n

And if there had once been the expectation that, as before, the distance might be temporary, that assumption, I\u2019m told, did not hold this time.<\/p>\n

\u2018Dan moving out of the family home back in November showed his wife that he was serious about the break-up,\u2019 the source adds. \u2018She always thought he\u2019d be back but he\u2019s shown her that they are better off with their current arrangement.\u2019<\/p>\n

At the heart of the breakdown, those close to the couple say, was a dynamic that had been in place for years \u2013 one shaped by Dan\u2019s past infidelities, but defined by Jac\u2019s inability to move beyond them.<\/p>\n

\u2018She had all the power and control, but five years on she was still the same even though he had done nothing to show her otherwise,\u2019 a source says. \u2018He couldn\u2019t do anything right, despite doing most of the childcare, and always telling her where he was. The trust had gone and there was no moving on from it no matter how hard he tried.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Everyone is blaming him, but these last five years he really has done everything he can to be the best husband and dad,\u2019 the source adds. \u2018The past is the past but sadly she never really moved on from what he did to her all those years ago.\u2019<\/p>\n

Indeed, the couple have faced their difficulties over the years, with their marriage plagued by those cheating allegations against Dan.<\/p>\n

He was accused of having a fling with Love Island: All Stars winner Gabby Allen, 34, in 2018<\/a> after they were pictured cosying up together on a yacht in Marbella.<\/p>\n

The former ITVBe star was also accused of sleeping with a mystery woman months after his wedding to Jac, and partaking in a threesome with Celebrity Big Brother model Chloe Ayling, 28, and US reality TV star Natalie Nunn, 41, which he denied<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Six months later, he was seen kissing 2018 Love Islander Alexandra Cane on a London night out.<\/a><\/p>\n

An insider said at the time: \u2018Dan bought a house last year without telling Jacqueline until the final stages.<\/p>\n
