Graham Carey said on Wednesday he was \u201cheartbroken beyond words\u201d as he announced Rachel Borthwick had died.\"An<\/p>\n

There has been a fresh wave of support for a fundraiser in memory of the partner of Dunfermline Athletic footballer Graham Carey following news of her death.<\/p>\n

Carey said on Wednesday he was \u201cheartbroken beyond words\u201d as he announced Rachel Borthwick had died.<\/a><\/p>\n

The mother-of-two was diagnosed with breast cancer more than four years ago and latterly travelled to India for treatment.<\/p>\n

She died at CK Birla Hospital in Delhi on Sunday with her parents at her side.<\/p>\n

Carey wrote on Instagram: \u201cNo words can describe the pain and sadness of having to explain to my babies that their beautiful Mummy and best friend will not be coming home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are her whole world and always will be. It was her only motivation over these past few years dealing with this horrible illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can take some comfort that their Mummy is no longer in any pain and can now rest in peace. We will always love you more than you could ever know.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cRachel was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, auntie, niece, cousin and friend, and the space she leaves behind can never be filled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Irish footballer Carey, whose previous clubs include Ross County, St Johnstone and Celtic, is on loan to Dunfermline from Livingston.<\/p>\n

Donations to a GoFundMe set up to support Ms Borthwick through treatment will now be used to support her children, organisers of the fundraiser said.<\/p>\n

Since news of Ms Borthwick\u2019s death emerged, there has been an increase in donations to the fundraiser. More than \u00a3150,000 has been donated since it was set up in 2023.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for GoFundMe said: \u201cWe have seen a fresh wave of support for Rachel\u2019s campaign following the news of her death in India, with donors coming together to help her family during this heart-breaking time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunfermline Athletic posted condolences on X, saying: \u201cEveryone at Dunfermline Athletic was hugely saddened to learn of the passing of Rachel Borthwick, partner of Pars player Graham Carey.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts are with Rachel\u2019s family and friends at this devastating time. Rest in Peace, Rachel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Livingston, Ross County and St Johnstone also paid tribute.<\/p>\n

A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson said: \u201cWe are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in India and are in contact with the local authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n
