A LIMERICK<\/a> father and son who both died after assaults on St Patrick\u2019s Day – eight years apart – are to be laid to rest together.<\/p>\n

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Liam (Gingee) Higgins, aged in his 50s, who died following an assault at Athlunkard Street in Limerick city on St Patrick\u2019s Day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His son, Jamie, aged 23, was stabbed to death during a row with another man at a nightclub in Shannon on St Patrick\u2019s Day in 2018.<\/p>\n

Liam Higgins\u2019 death notice has been published this Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with deep sadness we announce the death of Liam (Gingee) Higgins, Mungret, County Limerick and late of Ryan\u2019s Cottages and O\u2019Malley Park, Limerick.<\/p>\n

“On March 25, 2026, at University Hospital Limerick, surrounded by his family,” it reads.<\/p>\n

Liam Higgins is pre-deceased by his son Jamie and father Jim (Seamus). He is very deeply regretted by mother Anne, wife Sharon, sons Calvin and Scott, daughter Leanne, grandchildren, brothers James and Wesley, James\u2019s wife Leanne, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.<\/p>\n

Funeral arriving at St Nessan’s Church, Raheen, on Saturday, March 28, for Requiem Mass at 11am, after which Liam Higgins will be laid to rest with his son Jamie in Castlemungret Cemetery, Mungret.<\/p>\n

The Higgins family ask for “house strictly private, please” and “family flowers only”.<\/p>\n

The family, in the death notice, also extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the A&E and ICU of University Hospital Limerick for their “exceptional care and support”.<\/p>\n

Three men have been charged in relation to the garda investigation surrounding Liam Higgins’ death and have previously appeared before Limerick District Court.<\/p>\n

Investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n
